Besides being a financial and creative hub, the city of Amsterdam is also known for its various shopping centres and markets. Thought Amsterdam may not be popular like London or Paris when it comes to shopping, the city nonetheless has a lot to offer for the thrifty tourists looking towards buying something as a souvenir. And what makes shopping in Amsterdam much more enjoyable is that most of the shopping centres are relatively close to the residential area where many of Amsterdam service apartments galore.

The good thing about shopping in Amsterdam is that most of the shops are opened till late evening with some supermarkets opened till 10 pm also. Some of the best places to shops when staying in Amsterdam are the areas of Nieuwedijk-Kalverstraat, Damrak ,Rokin, Heiligeweg, Leidsestraat etc. In these markets you can shop for almost everything. While the pedestrian friendly Nieuwedijk-Kalverstraat markets are famous for shoes, clothing, bags, gift shops, cards, perfumes etc, those of Damrak and Rokin are filled with nice coffee shops and restaurants. IF it is something upmarket that you seek, then head off to the Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat or PC Hooftstraat as it is better known . Located in the Oud Zuid district, this is where you can find designer shops and haute couture boutiques belonging to the likes of Cartier, Gucci, Edgar Vos, and Chanel etc. And yes, what is Amsterdam without its tulips- Located on the Singel canal between the Koningsplein and the Muntplein is the city’s most famous flower market opened all days of the week, this market is definitely worth a visit.

In addition to these, there are also several shopping shops that sell almost everything from groceries to antiques and curios to artwork etc. Notable among them are the Albert Cuypmarkt where you can buy groceries, exotic herbs and spices etc; Antiekmarkt Amsterdam as the name suggests antique jewelry, silverware, collectables etc; the famous Waterlooplein Flea Market where bargaining is a must and the various weekend Farmers market. Most of these markets are well connected by the Amsterdam public system so irrespective of where your holiday apartment or holiday rental is, you can easily find your way around.
