2013 Rugby League World Cup : Let the battle begin

Seems like 2013 is going to be the year of London, if one goes by the number of events –both cultural and sporting that is going to be held in the city in the coming few months. Beginning with the Chelsea flower show in May to the London Jazz festival in November, not to mention the various films, music and art shows thrown in between, London definitely seems to be the place to be in 2013. Besides the various cultural events, there are also several sporting events that will be taking place in London with the most popular one being the 2013 Rugby League World Cup so if you thought that all sports related events end with the 2012 London Olympics and Para Olympics...think again!

Diehard fans of Rugby from all over the world are waiting with abated breath for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup to begin. Jointly hosted by England and Wales along with France and Ireland, this gala sporting event is all set to begin from November 30 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium with the first match being played between the countries of Wales, England, Australia and Italy. Wembley Stadium will host the semifinals; with the final being played at Old Trafford. 14 teams divided into four groups will be participating in the event including first timers Italy & USA. Preparation for the event have already began with organisers taking care to avoid last minute glitches and fans making arrangements for booking airfare, match tickets and renting out holiday apartments and service apartments near to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup match venues.

Participating Teams and Group Format



Around fourteen teams from all over the world will be participating in the tournament. These include first timers like Italy and the United States, the 2008 defending champions New Zealand, besides Australia, England, Samoa, Wales, Fiji, France, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland, Tonga and Cook Islands.

Teams have been divided into 4 groups with the first two groups made up of four teams and the rest two with three each. A round robin league format has been envisaged with an additional inter-group game between Group C & D. Winners from the first three teams of the first two groups and those from each of the two smaller groups will then proceed to the quarter final round to be played at Wigan, Warrington, Leeds and Wrexham before heading off for the semi finals at Wembley and finals at Old Trafford. 2013 Rugby League World Cup Dates and Venues


The 2013 Rugby League World Cup will be held from 26 October to 30 November 2013 and will be held at various venues spread across four countries - France, England, Wales and Ireland. We do hope that you will be there at one of the venues to support your team. If due to some unforeseen event you are unable to make to the venue, don’t worry you can always catch the live action from the confines of your rented holiday rental that comes with a LCD/Plasma TV and yes do invite your friends and colleagues over for a healthy and heated discussions of the match over a can of beer and knick knacks made by you in the kitchen of your apartment.
