Ian Dee, on 19 Mar 2012

Hi, I stayed at an apartment at Canary Wharf from 19th to 22nd March 2012. I found the apartment extremely clean and modern, and the location was perfect for me as I was working at The ExCel and could easily catch the DLR. The amenities were on the whole fine, however there were problems with the hot water, resulting in me having to have a cold shower on the Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and also the curtains in the lounge were broken. This caused issues as a colleague was staying with me for the Tuesday night, sleeping on the sofa, and the broken curtains didn’t facilitate a sound nights sleep. The blinds in the bedroom were also troublesome, and to ensure that they stayed closed through the night I had to hang my clothes on them to weigh them down. Checking in was a real problem. I was told by the concierge that I had been moved to flat 522 at Cobalt point, so I dragged my bags there and found that my key fob didn’t work to open the door. Luckily another resident saw me and let me in. After this I made my way to the 5th floor, and walked every inch of the corridor to find that the highest number apartment was 519. I called the MoLi number and was told that there definitely was a 522 at Cobalt point, so I did another lap of the floor, again finding the highest number to be 519. To confirm this, I asked a resident I spotted, and also checked the post boxes – both showed that Cobalt Point had no number 522. I called MoLi again, and this time they confirmed that the concierge had made a mistake and I should have been in the original building (Dennison House?). So, I dragged my bags back, and of course my key fob worked on this door as this was where I was meant to be in the first place! All in all it took me a good hour to actually finally get into the correct apartment after picking the keys up. Overall, the issues with the curtains and hot water, coupled with the trouble I had actually checking in, the stay was not as relaxing and enjoyable as I’d have expected. This is a real shame as the apartment generally was very nice and in an excellent location.
