Proms in the Park

BBC Proms 2010, the World’s Greatest Classical Music Festival, is now on. Dating back to the 1890s, this highly popular music festival is credited for popularizing music with the common Londoners at a time when orchestras and concerts were the privilege of the elite. The brainchild of Robert Newman, the then manager of Queen’s Hall’s, the festival embraced all genres of music and gave a platform to upcoming artistes to perform alongside accomplished musicians.

In the late 1920s, the BBC took the Proms under its wing, giving it a new lease of life and a far wider reach through its regular broadcasts. The festival is now at its 116th year and continues to feature music from all genres from across the world. In addition to the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Sound Scapes, Beethoven Nights, Australian Youth Orchestra, Wagner Organ Recital, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, London Sinfonietta and Bach Organ Recital are on the program roll.

Those unable to catch the action live can tune in to BBC’s broadcasts of the proms radio: BBC Radio 3 or television: BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three, BBC Four; all concerts and events are also available online on its official site, making it even more easier to keep up with the growing music festival.

After nine weeks of non-stop musical entertainment, the Proms will come to a spectacular end on 11th September with the grand Proms in the Park live concerts across United Kingdom and in Dundee, Scotland.
